StoneWall's breeding program

Our philosophy is to breed to the Japanese Standard.  At StoneWall we do not condone line or inbreeding.  The Japanese oppose it.  This is the breed of the Japanese and I am just a curator in the United States.  Everything I love about this breed is due to the breeding programs of the Japanese.  That is why I will not change it.  I have found that the Japanese strain of world class Tosas with Yokozuna and Ozeki titles are incredibly healthy with virtually no medical conditions.  To be able to compete and win until the age of 7-8 in Japan, the Japanese Tosa-Ken MUST be intact, mentally stable and Healthy.

I consult with the Japanese on breeding pairs to ensure our path with the Tosa-Ken is the correct one.  I have their blessings on the protection, obedience, tracking, in house therapy work and weight pulling work that I have done with the Tosa-Ken.  The Japanese OPPOSE fighting Tosas out side their native country. The Japanese do not condone illegal activity when it involved their breed, the Tosa-Ken. The Japanese have the foresight to see that the Tosa-Ken needs an alternative occupation outside Japan.  This is essential to the survival of the Tosa-Ken.

At StoneWall, breedings are planned up to two years in advance.  To produce the quality Tosa-Ken, it is of the utmost importance to do selective breeding.  I appreciate  and thank you for the time you have taken to read about our philosophy.

Care and management of StoneWall's puppies

1: Weight records on all of StoneWall's puppies are documented from birth to the time they go to there new family.

2: TNI Noni is administered to the puppy by mouth before the first milk and then once a day for the next week. Followed with daily administration.

(Noni builds the system to help with digestion, immunity and so on)

3: De-worming is started at 2 weeks of age and the at 3,4,6,8, weeks of age. I want to ensure all of my puppies have the best available care.

4: I play Love 89 radio in the whelping box so they get a verity of music and voices, along with periodic vacuum and other noises they would encounter in your home..

5: The nails are trimmed starting at 2 weeks and then every week thereafter.

6: Raw foods with a high quality kibble ( NOT Eukanuba, Science diet, Etc.)  are started at 4 weeks of age.

7: At the time of birth all puppies have their own file with identification, so I can keep an accurate record concerning each puppy.

8: For the most part the puppy is house broken by the age of 6-7 weeks.  I introduce them to the out side area.  The Tosa-Ken is an incredibly clean Dog, more so than any other dog I have ever encountered.  Always remember that it is still a puppy and they do make mistakes, be patient.

9:  All puppies will be fitted with the Home Again Micro-Chip.  I have thought long and hard on this and I want to make sure all of my puppies are safe.  If a dog is Micro-Chipped  the experimental labs CAN NOT purchase them for testing and other wise.  As well as the animal shelters have the device to scan all incoming dogs and if it is micro-chipped the owner on file with the national database will be contacted immediately.  All advantages, no negatives with the Micro-Chip.

10. Vaccination: please contact me for further information on our immunity and vaccination program.

The contact information on a holistic approach with immunity, for the book and other great information is:

This site will give you a good solid foundation for the raw food diet as well.  Before making your decision to go with the holistic approach do the research yourself, read the book and start asking questions.  I do not want any one to be uncomfortable about a decision concerning one of our puppies.  This is a important decision.

Questions to ask in your search for your new family member the Tosa-Ken.

1: Are there any import Tosa-Ken's (From Japan) in the pedigree on the said puppy in question?  They must be within two generations to ensure that they are carrying on the tradition of the Japanese and the spirit of the Tosa-Ken.  I also recommend that their be a titled Ozeki or Yokozuna within three generations.  Not all imports are the same.  They must come from a proven lineage.

2: How Long has the breeder been breeding the Tosa-Ken?

3: How many different bloodlines do they own?

4: Have they done any Temperament Testing?

5: Do they have any Working Titles on the parents of the puppy in question?

6: What is the feeding program that they provide for the puppies and the female? What brand of kibble food and other additives, do they feed raw foods?

7: What is the process of selection for the new puppy owners?

8: Did the breeder disclose the dog aggression factor about the Tosa-Ken?

9: To ensure the proper development of your new family member and friend is the breeder willing to carry on a relationship with you years after your purchase?

10: Where are the breeders Tosas housed, i.e. kennels, crates, fenced yard, on chains or larger property?

11: Does the bloodline that the breeder has carry allergies, thyroid, hip dysphasia, bloat and or temperament problems (shyness, this is a major fault)? These are all problems that I have not encountered with the direct import Yokozuna and Ozeki lines.

12: How many different breeds of dogs do they breed?

13: Do not buy unless the Tosa-Ken has paperwork from the F.C.I
(NOT F.I.C.), U.K.C., A.K.C./F.S.S.  There are numerous registrations out there that will register just about anything and call it something else.  I DO NOT recommend buying a puppy of any breed with out these papers.  As the old saying goes "If it sounds to good to be True , it probably is".

I enclose these questions to  help you in your search for a new puppy.  These are questions that you can use for any breed that you are inquiring about.  Good luck on your search.
